Counterspell Vancouver is a beginner friendly game jam for high schoolers happening in Vancouver where artists, musicians, and coders get together to build apps and games.
Build whatever you want!
Any game counts! The theme for Counterspell Vancouver will be decided through peer voting before the event starts.
Whether you’re a beginner or experienced in programming- we’ll have workshops, resources and mentors throughout the end of hackathon will help you with your project.

You can join the guild you identify with for exclusive swag and badges! You also get to compete against other guilds in friendly activities/challenges throughout Counterspell Vancouver!

Start building your game (no experience needed) or whatever you want to make
Attend workshops, or talk to one of our mentors for help
Ship what you made and share it with the rest of the world!

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I eligible to sign up?
If you're 18 or under, yes, we are so excited to see you! If you're over 18 but still in high school, shoot us an email at counterspell@hackclub.com.
Does participating cost anything?
It's entirely free! We'll have meals, snacks, and beverages onsite at the hackathon, as well as swag, prizes, and fun mini-events.
What has Hack Club done before?
We have run multiple events around the world. The summer of '21, we chartered a train across America and ran the world's longest hackathon on land. Last year, we ran an outdoors do-it-yourself camping adventure in Cabot, Vermont.
I'm not good at coding, can I join?
Well first of fall this event is not about coding, if you love art or music or even you are good public speaker you can be asset to a team and secondly this hackathon is for hackers of all skill levels! We'll have workshops and other events so join us and let's learn together. If you'd like to start exploring some introductory projects, check out Hack Club Workshops.
What can I make at Counterspell?
At Counterspell, we're building video games of all kinds! The theme is "Magic". Dont make anything before the event or your submission would automatically be rejected.
What do I need to bring to Counterspell?
It's a Bring your own Device (BYOD) event so bring your laptop, charger,whatever else you want food ? works if it is not smelly or oily, and an open mind!
